Neiguan Acupoint

Location Method

On the palmar side of the forearm, find the central depression located approximately three finger-widths up from the center of the transverse wrist crease.

Detailed Guide to Find Neiguan (PC6)

The Neiguan point is one of the most commonly used and powerful acupoints, especially for self-care. Here’s a simple, step-by-step way to locate it accurately:

  1. Turn your palm to face upwards.

  2. Place the first three fingers (index, middle, and ring finger) of your other hand across your wrist, with the edge of your ring finger resting on the wrist crease.

  3. The Neiguan point is located directly under the edge of your index finger, in the center of the forearm between the two prominent tendons you can feel there.

  4. Tip: To make the tendons stand out, make a light fist and slightly flex your wrist. The two tendons will become more visible and easier to feel. The point lies in the hollow between them.

Significance and Functions

Neiguan (Pericardium 6) is a crucial acupoint with a wide range of applications, primarily related to the chest, heart, and stomach. Its main functions include:

  • Calming the Heart and Spirit (宁心安神): It is a primary point for relieving anxiety, stress, insomnia, and palpitations.

  • Regulating Qi and Relieving Pain (理气止痛): It is highly effective for unblocking Qi stagnation in the chest, helping to alleviate chest tightness, stuffiness, and pain.

  • Harmonizing the Stomach and Stopping Nausea (和胃止呕): This is perhaps its most famous application. Neiguan is exceptionally effective for all types of nausea and vomiting, including motion sickness, morning sickness, and nausea from chemotherapy or surgery. Acupressure wristbands for motion sickness are designed to stimulate this point.
