Ganshu Acupoint
Location Method
The Ganshu point is located on the back, below the spinous process of the 9th thoracic vertebra (T9), 1.5 cun lateral to the midline of the spine.[1][2][3][4][5]
How to find it:
-
Locate the 9th Thoracic Vertebra (T9): A common way to find the thoracic vertebrae is to use the scapula (shoulder blade) as a landmark.[3] When a person is sitting with their arms hanging down, the bottom tip (inferior angle) of the scapula is generally level with the spinous process of the 7th thoracic vertebra (T7). From there, count down two vertebrae to find T9.[3]
-
Measure 1.5 cun: The “cun” is a traditional Chinese unit of measurement that is relative to the person’s body. 1.5 cun is approximately the width of the index and middle fingers held together at the middle knuckle.[6][7][8]
-
Find the Point: From the depression just below the bony prominence of the T9 vertebra, measure 1.5 cun (about two finger-widths) to the side. The point is located on the paraspinal muscles, which run parallel to the spine.[2]
