Drug Composition:

  • Radix Angelicae Sinensis (Dang Gui): 9g

  • Radix Rehmanniae (Sheng Di): 9g

  • Semen Persicae (Tao Ren): 12g (Peach Kernel)

  • Flos Carthami (Hong Hua): 9g (Safflower)

  • Fructus Aurantii (Zhi Ke): 6g

  • Radix Paeoniae Rubra (Chi Shao): 6g (Red Peony Root)

  • Radix Bupleuri (Chai Hu): 3g

  • Radix et Rhizoma Glycyrrhizae (Gan Cao): 3g (Licorice Root)

  • Radix Platycodonis (Jie Geng): 4.5g

  • Rhizoma Chuanxiong (Chuan Xiong): 4.5g

  • Radix Achyranthis Bidentatae (Niu Xi): 10g

Method of Administration:

Decoct the ingredients in water and take the resulting liquid orally.

Functions:

This formula is indicated for a pattern of blood stasis in the chest. Its primary functions are to invigorate the blood, dispel stasis, move Qi, and alleviate pain.

It is used to treat symptoms such as:

  • Chronic, fixed, and stabbing pain in the chest and/or head.

  • Persistent hiccups.

  • Choking when drinking water.

  • Dry heaves.

  • A sensation of internal heat and oppression.

  • Palpitations, anxiety, insomnia, and excessive dreaming.

  • Irritability and a tendency towards anger.

  • Tidal fever in the evening.

  • Dark or purplish lips or dark circles around the eyes.

  • A dark-red tongue, which may have purple spots (ecchymosis) or petechiae.

Contraindications:

Due to the significant number of blood-activating and stasis-removing herbs in the formula, it is contraindicated during pregnancy.
